The actor addressed this issue during an interview with Kevin Hart on the season four premiere of Hart to Heart.
Affleck, who has gained a reputation for his seemingly displeased expressions in pictures, shed light on the matter and shared his perspective on being constantly in the spotlight alongside his wife, Jennifer Lopez.
Affleck, 51, acknowledged that his viral 'fed up with life' meme has been circulating on the internet for years, fueling public perception of him as constantly irritated.
He explained that since rekindling his relationship with the renowned singer, he has found himself being photographed more frequently.
The actor emphasized the immense fame and adoration that Lopez receives from people, which he witnesses firsthand.
Reflecting on a recent experience in Times Square, Affleck recounted how he and Lopez decided to walk a block and a half to a play they were attending.
As they made their way through the bustling streets, the actor was taken aback by the chaotic scene that unfolded around them.
He described encountering a lady in a tight purple suit, smoking weed, who started running backward while filming and shouting "JLo!" like a herald.
"We went somewhere with [Lopez]. I can’t remember because she’s so famous, and she creates this, people love her," the Air actor explained to Hart. And she really represents something important to people.
"[To me,] people are like, ‘Hey, I like your movie,’ and then they’re like ‘AHHHH! J-Lo!' Ben Affleck recalled.
Addressing his seemingly perpetually irked expression, Affleck attributed it partly to his shyness and discomfort with excessive attention.
When cameras are thrust in his face, he admitted feeling a sense of unease, which may translate into an angry or annoyed appearance.
The actor expressed his understanding of why people perceive him this way, as the intrusion of cameras triggers an involuntary reaction in him.
"That's why people see me and they're like, 'Why's this dude always mad? Because somebody has their camera and sticks it in my face and I'm like, 'OK, here we go.'"
