Bill Gates, the famous co-founder of Microsoft, recently made headlines as he expressed deep regrets about his past affair with a colleague from the company.
His candid admission has sparked discussions on social media.
Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, has recently expressed his remorse over his past affair with a colleague at the company.
The 65-year-old billionaire, who finalized his divorce from his wife of 27 years, Melinda, earlier this week, opened up about his regrets during an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.
When asked about his affair, Gates candidly admitted, "Certainly, I think everyone does [have regrets]."
He acknowledged that it was a time for reflection but emphasized the importance of moving forward, stating, "My work is very important to me."
Despite the end of their marriage, Gates expressed his admiration for Melinda and their shared commitment to their philanthropic efforts through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
He described their partnership as a source of personal sadness but affirmed that they would continue to communicate and work together for the betterment of the foundation.
"Melinda's a great person and that partnership that we had coming to an end is a great source of great personal sadness," Gate says.
The revelation of Gates's affair came after a spokesperson for the billionaire confirmed that there had been a peaceful end to an affair that occurred almost 20 years ago.
The spokesperson clarified that his decision to step down from Microsoft's board in 2020 was unrelated to this matter and had been motivated by his desire to focus more on philanthropy.
Microsoft also addressed the issue, stating that they had received a concern in 2019 regarding Gates' attempt to initiate an intimate relationship with an employee back in 2000.
The company conducted a thorough investigation, providing support to the employee who raised the concern.
Furthermore, Gates' departure from Microsoft's board last year was driven by his dedication to philanthropic priorities, including global health, development, and education, and his increasing engagement in addressing climate change.
He expressed confidence in the strong leadership at both Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway, signaling that it was the right time for time to take this step.
"I have decided to step down from both of the public boards on which I serve - Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway - to dedicate more time to philanthropic priorities including global health and development, education, and my increasing engagement in tackling climate change.
"The leadership at the Berkshire companies and Microsoft has never been stronger, so the time is right to take this step," Bill Gates declared.
