Jeremy Triantafilo, a 4-year-old boy who has mild autism, was playing on his bike near his home in Bakersfield, California when a gray dog from the neighboring house suddenly rushed over, bit his leg and pulled him down.
However, the family's black cat, Tara, immediately jumped in to attack. The jump was so strong that it sent the larger dog flying and running away before a woman came to help Jeremy.
The boy was taken to the hospital with some bleeding bite wounds on his leg. "Luckily, everything is fine. My son is still healthy," said Roger Triantafilo, Jeremy's father.
According to the Bakersfield police, the dog that attacked Jeremy was 8 months old, a crossbreed of Labrador and Chow.
The vicious dog was immediately seized and taken for quarantine by its owner, then killed to avoid causing harm to the neighbors.
People living in the area said that the dog did not like children or bicycles. This could be the reason why it attacked Jeremy.
If Tara the cat had not appeared in time, the consequences could have been unimaginable. The surveillance video captured from the incident was uploaded to YouTube on May 14 and quickly went viral.
Many praised the brave cat for jumping in to defend Jeremy, despite its much smaller size compared to the dog. "Does anyone still dare to say that cats don't love their owners?" commented a YouTube user."
