A couple recently had a disappointing experience at a beach restaurant in Mykonos, Greece, where they were shocked to receive a bill of $876 for just two drinks.
The incident has sparked widespread criticism and negative reviews of the establishment, which has been accused of overcharging customers in the past.
The couple, who took to TripAdvisor to express their frustration, titled their review "AVOID AT ALL COST" and described how they were deceived into paying for drinks under the impression that they could enjoy the beachside beds for free.
To their astonishment, each drink cost them $51, and they later discovered an additional charge of $876 on their account.
To this unexpected amount, they are now attempting to dispute the charge, as they claim they never signed for anything or received a paper receipt.
Angry customers have accused the venue of luring them in with the promise of free sunbeds if they purchase drinks, only to charge exorbitant prices for those beverages.
One reviewer mentioned being overcharged for four drinks at $60 each, while another customer reported being initially quoted a price of $37 for a drink and chair, only to be charged $91.92.
Eleanor W said she and her partner were charged twice after being told their card payment didn't work.
"They will tell you the beach beds are free but then say you need to purchase a drink. Once seated they show you a menu where the drink prices are so exorbitant, it makes up for not paying for a beach bed x 10.
"They also said my card payment didn't work so we used my partner's card, to check the bank account and we had two transactions of the same amount come out at once. W***ers,' she warned other customers.
Elise B said her mistake was ordering food priced 'by the ounce.' This led to a $323 bill for sea bass and $128 for a jumbo shrimp that 'wasn't cooked properly.'
She was also overcharged, with $1,000 taken from her account, which didn't match the receipt. Such experiences have left visitors feeling furious and dissatisfied.
In response to the criticism, Dimitrios Kalamaras, the manager of DK Oyster, attempted to defend the high prices by stating that their sunbeds come with a minimum consumption requirement.
He urged visitors to check the displayed menus to be informed about the food and drink prices.
'I would like to note that our menus are displayed on blackboards near the entrance, showing the prices of our food and drinks to keep our guests informed,' the manager said.
Kalamaras also called on the reviewer to reconsider their harsh expressions and accusations, emphasizing the restaurant's commitment to providing a positive experience for all guests.
