Every dog possesses a distinct personality and preferences. Some of them like refreshing baths, while others thrive on endless playtime. But have you ever encountered a canine with an extraordinary passion for snow?
Sakari is proof of that. Sakari is a husky whose adoration for the wintry wonderland knows no bounds. Sakari's owner goes above and beyond by constructing a special snow fort just for her.
Amanda Killen and her partner were on the lookout for an older dog when they stumbled upon Sakari, a husky who had endured her fair share of hardships.
Spending most of her life confined in a cramped kennel with 40 other dogs, Sakari had been deprived of the simple joys of the great outdoors.
Killen told The Dodo, “Phil and I went to see the potential dogs that this person was rehoming as we wanted to add an older dog to our home."
“We had no idea what we were walking into.”
On December 20, 2021, they arrived at Sakari's previous home only to discover that the breeder was already under investigation by the New Brunswick SPCA. Thankfully, shortly after Amanda and Phil's visit, all the remaining dogs were rescued.
Among the rescued canines, Sakari stood out from the pack. Approaching Amanda and Phil with a gentle and affectionate demeanor, she laid down at their feet.
Sharing the contact between Amanda and Phil's immediate connection with Sakari, realizing that Sakari was the missing piece in their home.
Transitioning to her new home presented Sakari with a few challenges. She displayed sensitivity to changes in her environment, even minor ones such as furniture rearrangement.
Loud noises and swift movements made her uneasy, particularly when unfamiliar adults were involved.
However, Sakari's interactions with children and other animals were nothing short of heartwarming, as she exhibited a special fondness for caring for a new baby in the family.
A strong bond quickly formed between Sakari and Phil, finding solace in each other's presence. Their shared passion for snow manifested in their exhilarating outdoor adventures, with Sakari thoroughly relishing the moments when Phil would playfully bury her in the chilling snow.
"Phil just kind of started putting snow on her [one day]. She just laid there, so he kept burying her!" Killen recounted with delight. "I think she would have laid there all day."
Sakari's transformation from her days confined in the breeding pen is nothing short of remarkable. It is a testament to the unwavering commitment, patience, and love demonstrated by her dedicated guardians. While rescuing dogs can present challenges, such as destructive habits or severe separation anxiety, the love that blossoms when these obstacles are overcome is an incredibly rewarding experience.
Sakari, the snow-loving husky, serves as an inspiration to all who encounter her story. Her resilience, capacity for love, and unwavering spirit remind us of the remarkable transformations that can occur when animals are given a second chance in life.
Let Sakari's tale be a gentle reminder to cherish the unique personalities and passions of our furry companions.
