Emma Stone has disclosed the unfortunate incident that occurred just before her appearance on stage at the 2024 Oscars, where her dress suffered an unexpected tear.
In typical Oscars fashion, where mishaps seem almost customary - reminiscent of Jennifer Lawrence's stumble in 2013 - the 96th Annual Awards ceremony held on March 10 was no exception.
Nominated for Best Actress for her remarkable portrayal in "Poor Things," Stone had previously received acclaim for her performance at the Venice Film Festival premiere.
Her depiction of Bella Baxter, a character with a Frankenstein-esque narrative, captivated audiences, earning her a standing ovation.
Despite the wardrobe malfunction, the 35-year-old actor triumphed, winning the award and gracefully delivering her acceptance speech on stage.
However, as she made her way to the podium, observers noticed her mouthing that her dress was 'broken,' a fact she humorously acknowledged before commencing her speech.
Stone later revealed her belief that the seam on her Louis Vuitton attire gave way during her enthusiastic response to Ryan Gosling's performance of 'I'm Just Ken.'
In a candid backstage interview with Good Morning America, Stone reflected on the incident, attributing the dress mishap to her exuberance. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, she joked about the possibility of being 'naked' on stage but continued with the show undeterred.
"I'm so excited for Ryan and he just absolutely crushed it," she said. "So it was a blast, so it was worth the dress rip, you know?"
Throughout her acceptance speech, Stone expressed gratitude to her fellow nominees and emphasized the collaborative effort behind the film.
She recounted advice from "Poor Things" director Yorgos Lanthimos, which helped her maintain composure amidst the unexpected turn of events.
Concluding her speech, Stone extended heartfelt thanks to her family, husband, and most importantly, her daughter, recognizing their support. Following the ceremony, she shared in an interview with Good Morning America that her dress had been promptly repaired.
