EV driver criticized for 'self-entitled' behavior at charging station

Many social media users were stunned after an EV driver was labeled 'self-entitled' for hogging a charging station and blocking other motorists from using it.

On Facebook, the EV driver, labeled 'self-entitled,' faced criticism for occupying a charging station without allowing other drivers to use it, sparking debate and gaining attention on social media.

On Facebook, a user shared post showing a white BYD EV occupying multiple charging bays and two motorcycle spots simultaneously.

The post has the caption:" 'Congratulations to this person yesterday, who managed to connect to the charger on the right, while parking sideways across the charging bay on the left AND a couple of bonus motorbike parking bays".

The post showed a white BYD connected to a charging station while occupying multiple bays intended for both EVs and motorbikes.

This selfish act immediately drew criticism online, with users condemning the driver for their inconsiderate behavior.

The post quickly went viral and sparked debate on social media. 

In the comment selection, many social media users condemned the driver's actions. Someone criticized the EV driver for their perceived lack of consideration.

Comments ranged from questioning the driver's intelligence to accusations of entitlement.

One person said: Probably say the charger in front of the vehicle is faulty, so using the one next to it but charge point can’t be reached if it parked straight. Without seeing what’s going on with the other charger who knows?

A second wrote: People should wait until they return to get their car and deal to them in such a way they won't do it again.

While a third commented:  Easy solution cut the chargers. Also full of copper will be doing the world a favour and making money at the same time it's a win win.

After the incident, Drive and NRMA responded to the EV driver's actions. 

Drive and NRMA provided guidelines, urging EV owners to relocate their vehicles promptly after charging to regular parking spots to prevent inconvenience, a practice known as 'camping.'

NRMA also highlighted the issue of ICE vehicles occupying EV charging spots, termed 'ICEing,' likening it to blocking fuel pumps.

Now, the incident has sparked discussion about EV driver behavior and the need for respectful conduct at charging stations to ensure the benefit of other drivers. This is also the responsibility of the driver
