Five Guys, a popular fast-food chain, is known for its generous servings of fries. If you've ever had Five Guys fries, you'd agree they're among the best.
The chain takes pride in its fries, which are freshly made on-site and cooked in peanut oil to avoid trans fats and preservatives.
This makes them a tad healthier than your average fried potato, without compromising on taste.
Five Guys is renowned for its generous portion sizes, a fact that hardly anyone complains about. The founder of Five Guys, Jerry Murrell, has spoken about this.
In an interview with Food Republic, he explained the secret behind their delicious fries and why they always give an extra scoop.
"Peanut oil is a healthier oil. Many prefer to use hydrogenated oils for a crisper fry, but we want that melt-in-your-mouth buttery taste that non-hydrogenated oil offers.
There are no trans fats or preservatives, and it's the purest oil available. Since fries are all we cook in it, nothing touches our oil except for potatoes and our fry baskets," Murrell said.
The fries are served in a 24-ounce cup, much larger than those offered by Five Guys’ competitors.
The staff isn’t shy about packing the containers to the brim, even adding an extra scoop just for good measure.
For Murrell, it’s all about giving customers their money’s worth.
He even encourages complaints about the amount given, saying, "I teach my managers that if people aren’t complaining, then you’re not giving them enough.”
According to The Rakyat Post, Iain Ross-Mackenzie, Director Of Operations-APAC at Five Guys International, explained why its menu is so expensive.
The brand focuses on delivering an American experience with a simpler menu than some competitors' offerings. It includes four basic burgers, four hotdogs, and four types of sandwiches.
The pricing strategy is further influenced by the brand's commitment to using only fresh ingredients.
Five Guys eschew frozen options entirely. 'Nothing in our store is frozen.'
We only ever use fresh ingredients,' claimed Iain. From the burgers' meat and vegetables to the hand-cut potatoes for the fries, Five Guys prioritizes freshness in its culinary offerings.
Globally, Five Guys showcases the provenance of the potatoes used in their fries through signs in each restaurant.
Unlike some chains that tailor their menus to regional preferences or diversify their offerings, Five Guys remains steadfast in its formula.
