Five Guys, a popular fast-food restaurant chain, is currently facing backlash as customers express their outrage over the eye-watering prices of meals for a single individual.
The controversy began when a customer shared the shocking cost of a meal, sparking a discussion about the 'out of control' of fast food lately.
Five Guys has positioned itself as a premium outlet and has always been associated with higher prices compared to other burger joints on the high street.
While they do include extras like ketchup and pickles in the initial price, customers are expressing disappointment over the escalating costs.
Recently, a customer shared a fast-food receipt on social media with a whopping totaling $24.10 for a meal for one.
The bill shows a bacon cheeseburger priced at $12.49, a regular soda for $2.89, and a portion of fries costing $5.19.
In addition, there were additional fees including sales tax of $1.34 and a tip of $2.19, leading to a bill total of $24.10.
The sky-high prices sparked a wave of discontent among consumers, who voiced their concerns on platforms like Twitter.
Some individuals lamented the fact that fast food has become a luxury meal in today's times. Others expressed their preference for purchasing a steak from a grocery store at a comparable price.
However, some defended the higher prices, claiming the rising costs of ingredients like bacon and beef. They also argued that a burger priced below $12 might not be of good quality.
While Five Guys has faced criticism for its pricing, it is not the only fast-food chain experiencing price increases.
According to MoneyGeek, even budget-friendly chains like McDonald's have witnessed a significant increase of about 11.5% in their prices.
Currently, a burger, fries, and soda combo at McDonald's costs approximately $6.19, whereas the equivalent order at Five Guys comes to around $19.95.
Remarkably, Five Guys position itself as a premium fast-food restaurant, emphasizing the use of fresh ingredients instead of frozen ones and cooking their fries in peanut oil. Therefore, their products often being sold at higher prices than other restaurants.
However, some customers dismissed their statement, suggesting that if the prices were too high, they should simply stop dining at the establishment.
