In a recent concerning incident, a Delta Airlines passenger named Laura Iu was left feeling unsafe after noticing that the window on her flight appeared to be held together with tape.
When she raised her concerns to a flight attendant, she was told that was 'overreacting' and that the plane would still be able to fly.
Iu described hearing a whistling sound during the flight, which she initially thought was coming from the air vent.
However, upon closer inspection, she realized the sound was actually coming from the window seal, which appeared to be secured with black tape.
Iu could also feel some type of air coming through the gap, which understandably alarmed her.
The attendant told her that there was no issue and that the plane would still be able to fly, even with the taped window.
This response left Iu feeling unsafe and unsatisfied, prompting her to seek input from others on whether her concerns were justified.
In response to Iu's query, some commenters tried to reassure her, explaining that airplane windows have multiple layers and that air escaping the cabin would be noticeable.
They argued that the tape was likely just a temporary fix and that the structural integrity of the plane was not compromised.
Some pointed out that while the tape may not have posed an immediate safety risk, the optics of such a repair were concerning.
They argued that passengers deserve to feel confident in the airworthiness of the aircraft and that using tape to hold a window together sends the wrong message.
One commenter even drew a comparison to the recent issues with Boeing aircraft, stating that in the current climate, passengers have a valid reason to be concerned about the condition of their planes.
The general sentiment was that the airline should have addressed the issue more seriously and made proper repairs, rather than dismissing the passenger's concerns.
She was absolutely overreacting. We had this in our planes all of the time when I was a flight attendant 5 years ago. The forced air is just the recycled air flowing through the plane, one user said.
The fact that there are people dense enough6 think the interior window or trim is somehow sealing up the airplane is comical, the second user said.
Every airplane should be grounded and do a complete overhaul immediately don’t care what the cost is lives are more valuable, the third user said.
Dangerous!!! Never going to fly after this, I would rather take my chances with Malaysia airlines instead, another wrote.
