Gen Z workers are finding it hard to manage their 9-to-5 jobs and moaning about having to get up early to commute to their offices.
Some people argue that people don't seem to have time for themselves, but an account @ellsaatthedisco on TikTok, a Zoomer, is offering three tips for making it in the world of work.
“No. 1 is delete Teams, Slack, and emails off of your personal phone,” she advised in a viral video.
“If you need to access them outside of working hours, then your company should have no problem in providing you with a work phone to do so.”
The TikToker claimed that it is self-inflicted "damage" to check work-related correspondence "like they're social media apps."
“Before you know it, your whole identity will be work,” she warned. “I am not a CEO, and I don’t have shares in my company, so I have no business to be updated constantly or checking in on this project or that project.”
Her second piece of advice is to just work within the specified period, arrive and depart on time.
“The time we have outside of work is minimal, so it should be spent on you,” she said. “You can’t put a price on time.”
The content producer claimed that if it meant having time for herself, she would even forgo working overtime.
She advises taking lunch breaks away from the workspace to help the mind reset, addressing the feeling of being "chained to our desks."
“It’s rough out there,” she captioned her clip.
Viewers praised her comments, praising her lunch break and cell phone limitations.
The lunchtime boundaries are so important! one wrote.
The BIGGEST mistake I make every time I start a new job is re-download Slack to my phone, another commented.
I don’t know how people consistently work 40 hours. I did 32 this week and currently recovering in bed, it’s not a lot to everyone but it is to me, someone supposed.
I eat my lunch at my desk but I don't look at my computer screen at all during that time, another said.
TikToker offers advice after a Gen Z shared her emotional post about her 9-5 corporate job, citing a lengthy commute and lack of free time.
“I want to shower, eat my dinner, and go to sleep. I don’t have time or energy to cook my dinner either. Like, I don’t have the energy to work out, like that’s out the window. Like, I’m so upset,”
The young woman sobbed. “Nothing to do with my job at all, but just like the 9-to-5 schedule in general is crazy.”
