When on a trip, many people prefer to take photos to preserve memorable moments. This is a way to capture the beautiful stories of their lives as well as the picturesque scenery in the places where they visit.
However, the act of taking selfies is not permitted in certain places, and in this case, taking selfies could be dangerous as well as a threat to the lives of tourists.
An incident in Venice, where a gondola capsized in the water, serves as proof. The accident occurred when a group of tourists ignored warnings against taking selfies, which led to the Venice gondola capsizing the boat in the water.
Venice is one of the most popular tourist destinations, where thousands of tourists visit every year. However, a video that went viral on social media captured a terrible accident that occurred.
There were numerous questions asked about the safety of the location and the habits of a group of tourists while on a trip.
The video was captured by user @ienaridens69 and posted on the TikTok platform. The footage showed a gondola passing under a bridge near St. Mark’s Square when it flipped over.
The reason is reported to be a group of tourists who refused to stop taking selfies and ignored warnings about standing on the boat.
They were reported to have ignored the gondolier's requests to remain seated.
In the footage, a group of tourists is seen clinging to the side of the boat in the icy water. One can be heard shouting, 'Oh my god.' He tried to pull the side of the boat.
According to reports, there were no injuries after the accident. The entire group of tourists was brought to safety. As reported by The Guardian, they were provided “hospitality and warmth” inside the La Fenice theatre.
In the viral video, many people criticized a group of tourists for disregarding the captain's request, while others questioned whether they should continue visiting Venice due to the risks.
Watch the video below:
One individual commented: Tourists are annoying That area was so lovely again during COVID-19. Now it’s a joke again.
A second suggestion: The captain's suggestion is to ensure that passengers keep stable seats and postures during the passage under the bridge to reduce interference from the center of gravity of the ship. This can protect the safety of ships and passengers to the maximum extent.
A third commented: This is why we were told not to shift seats, but it was pretty obvious why. Poor gondola man.
Someone else said: These tourists are not confident swimmers, so they would be fearful. Where is the guy in charge of the gondolier? He’s nowhere to be seen.
