The 'cruel' moment showed mother stork didn't hesitate to throw her own offspring, leaving viewers breaking down in tears when they thought about the tragic life of baby stork.
In the video, viewers also witness the desperation in the stork's eyes, along with those of its siblings, who had to give up on life because of their mother."
Now, watching the video again, we spot that the stork mother chose to give up her baby by throwing it out of the nest, but still, the fortunate baby survives alongside its mother.
Regarding the 'cruel' actions of the stork mother, the ecologist, Piotr Zieliński, explained this heartbreaking moment.
He explained that the bird uses the tactic of giving up these babies as a way to preserve a large number of babies by offering some as sacrifices when they are in danger.
Zieliński explained that both ‘Black and White Storks were observed practicing facultative parental infanticide’.
The mother stork was compelled to remove one of her babies from the nest to ensure the highest survival chances for the others.
The video was shared by @TerrifyingNature on X, leaving numerous viewers heartbroken when they witnessed the 'cruelty' of the stork mother as she gave up her chick to increase the survival chances of the other babies. One person said: That's so freaking up. I probably would have killed the big bird and taken care of the babies myself.
A second wrote: I refuse to believe that’s the whole story; there must be more to this behavior. I would think this would be a last resort if it were truly for the other's survival, and none of them look underfed.
A third commented: This is why I hate storks. They’re beautiful but terrible, there’s so many videos about this.
Someone else said: If she throws the other 2 out of the nest the chances of her babies surviving go to 100%.
