An expert advises on how to clean the bottle.

Martin Bucknavage, a senior food safety extension program specialist at Penn State University, underscores the importance of cleanliness when it comes to reusable water bottles.

Bucknavage said, "Any time a bottle isn’t clean and there’s moisture in that bottle, that is always going to support the growth of microorganisms like bacteria and mold."

Given that bacteria naturally exist in our mouths and environment, they can easily find their way into improperly cleaned bottles, creating a breeding ground for potential health hazards.

Additionally, Martin Bucknavage reveals the best practices for cleaving.

To maintain a hygienic reusable water bottle, experts recommend thorough cleaning methods.

Ideally, if your bottle is dishwasher-safe, running it through the dishwasher is the most effective way to ensure comprehensive cleaning.

For bottles that require hand washing, a deep clean with soap and scrubbing tools is essential. Bucknavage advises against a mere rinse, emphasizing the importance of reaching into all areas where bacteria tend to accumulate.

Regular maintenance of your reusable water bottle is crucial for ensuring its safety and hygiene.

Whether opting for dishwasher cleaning or meticulous hand washing, taking proactive steps to eliminate bacteria buildup is key to enjoying clean, safe hydration.

By adopting these practices, you can continue to benefit from the convenience of reusable bottles while minimizing health risks associated with poor cleanliness habits.
