In a viral TikTok video, comedian and content creator Benton McClintock, aged 26, posted a video mocking vlogging from his point of view as a newly graduated young woman who moved to the big city.
Tearfully vlogging, Benton highlighted the stark contrast between the city's reality and the glamorous portrayal often seen in movies.
He said with a faux tear streaming down his face. 'New York City is like, not what I thought it was going to be.'
He also moaned and described New York City as "lonely" and "disgusting," when it was not as glamorous as he thought. He said: 'It's so lonely, it's disgusting, it's so dirty.'
He facetiously recounted his expectations of living in the West Village, dating a wealthy heir, and the harsh reality of waiting in line at a place named Pianos, facing spilled drinks from frat bros every weekend.
He continued: 'I’m waiting in line at a place called Pianos every weekend to just, you know, get drinks spilled on me by frat bros.'
Benton who is known as the fictional graduate, in the video, lamented the departure of Greek life friends who couldn't handle the city's challenges, emphasizing the loneliness and high expenses.
Walking along a street, he noted that the view from his apartment was merely a brick wall, questioning why such aspects weren't readily available on the internet.
He says New York is 'so lonely, and it's so expensive'.
He says in mock outrage when saying the reasons why New York is not all it's cracked up, saying: 'And it's like, why did no one tell me this?'
In conclusion, Benton facetiously expressed his surprise at the undisclosed aspects of New York, emphasizing: 'It's like these things aren't, like, published on the internet. It's like, I had no idea,'
The satirical video has garnered over 1.2 million views and sparked debates through numerous comments
One person said: I thought NY was dirty, loud, and smelly when I visited in the late eighties. The people were rude and brusque. I wrote it off as "it is what it is" but wouldn't go back for a return visit.
A second wrote: The rest of my USA trip was fantastic, especially the people and places in the southern states.
While a third commented: NY is just like the movies. You just have to pick the correct movie. "Escape from New York" is the most realistic.
Another said: It is gross. And sad. Unless you have $ millions - it is a joke and people who raise their kids there?
A close relative who lives in NYC says you're living in filth if you are there now. Another added.
