Landlord's goosebumps as year-long hoarding turns property into dumping ground

A landlord named Xie from Qingdao, Shandong Province, China, was stunned when he walked into the apartment of a resident who hadn't dumped the trash in over a year.

A video of the scene inside the house was filmed on August 10 and quickly went viral. The tenant, a woman, was sitting among heaps of trash while playing on her phone. The garbage in the house was piled up on the windows.

Xie said the smell coming from the house was the worst he had encountered, and it made him nauseous. He mentioned that the trash was even worse than shown in the video. Before filming the clip, he had cleaned up some of the trash.

In the middle of the mountain of garbage in the house, the tenant slept in the same small spot where she is seen sitting in the video.

It took the landlord 5 hours to pick up all the trash and clean the apartment. Despite the low standards apparent in the tenant's living conditions, the landlord gave her a few days to find a new place to live and offered financial compensation.

Hoarding trash in houses has occurred in many countries. Last year, a British landlord evicted one of his filthy tenants after discovering snakes, scorpions, and spiders among a horrendous pile of rubbish in his home.

In another instance in the UK, a tenant had amassed 600 beer cans and a person-sized pile of poop inside the house.

In yet another case, a couple moved into a new home only to find that the old tenant had left behind a disgusting "housewarming gift": a sink full of dishes, a toilet full of poop, and a pile of used underwear.
