In a strange incident, a man from Reddit suddenly received 10 brand-new Google Pixel phones worth around $10,000, after requesting a simple refund for his defective Google Pixel 3.
The Reddit user, known as u/Cheetohz, had initially returned his white Pixel 3 in order to purchase a "not pink" model.
However, instead of receiving the expected $900 refund, he was sent 10 new Pixel phones, each valued at $1,000.
Explaining the situation, the Redditor stated that he did not want to criticize the company but claimed he had no other option but to resort to "bad PR" to get the needed support.
He noted that he had only been refunded $80 in taxes, and was still owed $900 by Google.
'I bought a white Google Pixel 3 phone, but it was broken. So I returned it. I wanted to buy the "Not Pink" model instead. But the problem is, I only got $80 back (which was for the tax). I am still owed $900 by Google,' he explained.
The user expressed his desire to do the right thing and return the extra 9 phones but made it clear that would not do so until his original refund was processed properly.
He even threatened to sell the additional phones to recoup the money he was owed if the shipment was rejected.
Fortunately, the post quickly gained attention, and Google responded via its official Reddit account, asking the customer to provide some personal details so they could investigate the issue.
In the response, a company representative stated, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I will send you a private message to obtain some personal details from you, so that we can look into this matter for you."
In a subsequent update, the Redditor confirmed that Google had resolved the situation and that he would be mailing the phones back to the company.
"With the shipping is my not pink model, Google screwed up and shipped me 10... At $1000ea, that's $10k of product I now legally have in my possession. In all, I'm actually in the positive by $8k.
"Well, I want to do the right thing and return them. But I'm not willing to do so until my refund is processed properly. If I don't get the proper support here, I'll going to attempt to return the extra 9 phones via $1000 COD," the man stated in his post.
I should try this since my Pixel Phone got factory defect, one user said.
