The dark web has always been a topic that evokes fear and fascination.
But now, a new trend has emerged where people are buying mystery boxes from the dark web, filled with eerie and unsettling content.
While mystery boxes can be thrilling in certain contexts, like a bakery's discounted items or a clothing store's clearance sale, the notion of receiving a box from the dark web, where illicit and horrifying deeds occur, may not be a good idea.
Creators on platforms like YouTube and TikTok have been sharing their unusual and bizarre unboxing experiences.
One creator, known as Red Mask, has been documenting his encounters with dark web mystery boxes since 2015.
Red Mask, who wears a mask to conceal his identity, explained that his initial exposure to the dark web was through a friend who would receive packages wrapped in socks.
He was amazed by the accessibility and simplicity of the dark web and gradually delved deeper into this mysterious realm during the lockdown.
This prompted him to film his unboxing videos.
In his videos, Red Mask has revealed several bizarre items, including a broken PlayStation, a KFC bucket filled with rubber chickens, a note with a key attached to it, and even what appeared to be a can of urine.
However, the creepiest thing he claims to have received was a letter from someone purporting to be his birth mother.
The letter contained personal details that only a select few would know, and it was delivered to his actual home address.
Red Mask revealed that the sender expressed a continued watchful eye over him but did not wish to establish direct contact.
HindiDarkestFacts, a YouTuber, purchased a mystery box because he suspected that some videos he watched were scripted.
He has since shared his box openings, revealing items such as a bottle of red liquid with a drawn number '6' at the bottom, a black mask, a phone case, and a shiny piece of jewelry adorned with multiple gems.
However, HindiDarkestFacts had a message for skeptics who believed it was all fabricated, stressing that curiosity about these dark web mystery boxes could potentially lead to danger.
