A 23-year-old actor from Los Angeles was stopped by airport security due to a Christmas gift from his grandmother that she told him not to open.
He shared the story in a TikTok video, recounting how he received a heavy briefcase during the Thanksgiving holiday, with his grandmother told him not to open it until he arrived in California.
Despite his apprehension, he complied with her wishes and refrained from opening the briefcase, which contained a secret gift.
He explained in the video: "Grandma, I'm going to to airport, like I need to know,", but she said: "Just wait till you get there."
'So I go through security at the airport and the machine goes off, and it gets flagged as it's going through the conveyor belt. The guy tells me what's inside it. And I'm like, "Why did she..."'
After his briefcase was alerted to airport security, they began questioning him about its contents. The giant briefcase not only set off one of the airport's detectors as it passed through but also caused some serious alarms when the security guard realized he had no idea what was inside.
He said: “I got stopped [by] the airport security, and you know what it was because of this briefcase my grandma gave me as an early Christmas gift, and she said don’t open it until you get to California.”
When airport security asked what was inside, he replied, 'I don't know
He recount: “They said, ‘What do you mean? You’re bringing a briefcase, and you don’t know what’s inside?’”
In a moment of panic, he told them 'it's a surprise.'
'Grandma's trying to get me arrested,' he joked in the on-screen text on the video.
After identifying the typewriter, TSA agents permitted him to proceed through security, and he was able to catch his flight.
Gaffney joked in the video: “Who am I Tom Hanks?’ Am I going to go to the park and…write a whole book with a typewriter?”
He continued with an update in another video, showing his viewers that he cleaned the typewriter so it was ready to use.
Viewers praised him for following his nan's advice and not opening it before going through security, despite the fact that it caused a lot of trouble.
One person said: That’s seriously a cool gift.
A second wrote: Lmao!!! Saying “I don’t know what’s in the briefcase” and “it’s a surprise” is not what you want to say at an airport, loved his breakdown.
A third commented: Omg, I thought I couldn’t love my city anymore. We’re awesome here. Sir your grandma is a treasure.
While someone else said: I literally thought it was gonna be an actual old school typewriter not an electric one.
