In a recent food challenge, a man named Joel Hansen pushed the limit of his stomach's capacity by attempting to consume an astonishing amount of food.
The challenge occurred at Cattleman Steakhouse in Devon, UK, where Hansen decided to double the standard cottage pie challenge.
Normally, the steakhouse challenges diners to eat the equivalent of a dozen cottage pies in one hour. However, Hansen asked them to increase the challenge to 24 pies.
This meant he had to consume a total of 9kg of food, including 6kg of beef, 2kg of potatoes, 600g of peas, 600g of carrots, and four pieces of garlic bread, all within 60 minutes.
He had recently devoured an entire pig in Thailand, an experience that left him unable to eat for two days afterward.
Undeterred, he took on the cottage pie challenge with determination.
The first dozen pies were quickly polished off in just 8 minutes and 30 seconds. However, the second half of the challenge proved more difficult for Hansen.
As he neared the end, he felt "horribly full" and struggled to finish the remaining pies. Nonetheless, he persevered and completed the entire challenge with 20 minutes to spare.
Cattleman's owner, Gary King, was impressed by Hansen's "superhuman" effort, stating that he didn't think it was "humanly possible" for anyone to consume that much food in such a short time.
Hansen himself admitted that the challenge was a significant physical and mental feat, and warned others not to attempt it, saying, "It's not something I'd recommend anybody trying."
After his triumph, Hansen fell into a 10-hour food coma as his digestive system tried to cope with the massive amount of food he had consumed.
Despite the discomfort, he felt "superhuman" afterward, though he acknowledged that he is "only human" and the challenge was an extreme test of his limits.
Despite nearly finishing the entire massive meal, he was charged an additional $64 for not eating the accompanying salad.
The restaurant, Cattleman's Steakhouse, had posted about the customer's impressive effort to consume the colossal 3.2kg "Mega Mixed Grill" within the 1-hour time limit.
This challenge features a variety of meats including steak, gammon, sausages, chicken, and a cheeseburger.
The restaurant owner, Gary King, defended the decision to charge the customer, stating that "the challenge is to eat everything."
However, some online commenters criticized the lack of clarity and fairness, arguing the salad should not have been required.
The article notes the Mega Mixed Grill challenge has a 10% success rate, with the fastest completion time being 15 minutes and 42 seconds.
Customers from as far as Asia and America have traveled to attempt the challenge at Cattleman's Steakhouse.
