The viral story of a German TikToker has urged people to double-check their electrical devices before donating them to resale stores like Goodwill.
An account @dankeunextgay garnered millions of views on his video talking about a $15 Apple Time Capsule that he bought from the thrift store, containing some dirty content from the previous owner.
In the video, the Tiktoker connected the device to his computer and uncovered some of the previous owner's files dating back to 2010.
"It works and the person who donated it did not delete their information off of it before they donated it, so I've connected it to my computer and it's - whoever Don is, I'm sorry Don that I'm going through your s**t - but I have Don's computer and I'm going to update you guys on what I find," he said.
Afterward, TikToker provided additional details about the discontinued Apple Time Capsule in a two-minute follow-up clip.
"Instead of having just one backup, it has a whole list of backups. That way, if you want to go back to a certain period, you’re able to just go there instead.
“So it’s not just one copy of his computer, it’s dozens from different time periods dating back to 2010.”
Through copies of that old device, including photos dating back to the 1980s, he affirmed that Don might be a business owner or CEO based on his 'audit history, credit card numbers, and flight information.
"I have this man's bank account number. I can see how much money he had in the bank at one point. I even have his life insurance information, and this dude is worth millions of dollars," the Tiktoker surprisingly said.
He added: “Now, keep in mind, this is from, like, 2010, so he’s probably dead by now. But still, the fact that I have access to this is crazy.”
In the third video, The Tiktoker claimed that he trying to find Don's family to return the device and shared that he was not comfortable keeping someone's stuff.
“I don’t feel comfortable having it, and I don’t want to just delete it, so I’m gonna see if I can find at least someone to give it to.”
He added: "And to answer the question that I know that everyone’s gonna ask, there was porn. So there you have it."
His videos are now going viral on TikTok with a lot of comments that have the same feeling as him when they unexpectedly found someone's secret.
My worst nightmare. This is why I save all of my old electronic equipment. I'm just now remembering that I donated my time capsule without deleting it, one said.
LOL my late grandfather, Don, was an Apple nerd since they discontinued the Mac and a business owner... I am suspicious, the second joked.
I'm glad that you didn't share all of them on social media. Respect! another commented.
Keeping someone's secret is a sort of trouble, someone said.
It's kinda like a scary movie. You must die just because you know someone's dark secret lol, another replied.
