In a remarkable incident, a man had an unusually large and bumpy nose, causing him many difficulties in life.
The man was diagnosed with 'Elephant Man' syndrome in his nose and experienced many treatments but all were in vain.
However, after the decisive treatment, he regained a normal nose like many other people.
For years, Ian Arthur lived in the shadows, avoiding social interactions and feeling like 'a freak'.
The unusual growth on his nose, reminiscent of the disfigurement described in the movie "The Elephant Man," caused him distress, and called it John (following the name of John Merrick in the 1980 movie).
According to Arthur, the large tumor on his nose began appearing 10 years ago, and was diagnosed with rosacea, which causes the skin to become red and sensitive.
However, Arthur's nose continued to grow larger despite intensive treatment.
Arthur said he always has to face people's curious and judgmental looks because of his 'freaking' nose.
Especially, during the Covid period, he hardly contacted people and at the same time stopped all business activities when he felt customers were always staring at his nose.
While living with an 'Elephant Man' nose, he hardly left the house without something covering his face.
That's why, every time he goes out, Arthur only rides a motorbike and uses a motorcycle helmet to cover his face.
In addition, Arthur also revealed that self-consciousness and people's judgments made him cautious. He only started shopping late at night, when no one would notice his 'ugly nose'
Arthur also went to see a doctor following his daughter's recommendation and was diagnosed with malformed rhinitis.
Faced with his condition getting worse, Arthur thought about going to Turkey for treatment but was afraid his nose would fall off on the way home.
However, a miracle came when Arthur only needed to undergo a 2-hour surgery to remove the tumor on his nose.
According to the share, Arthur had CO2 laser treatment to remove excess skin tissue on his nose, performed by Dr. Cormac Convery, at Glasgow's Ever Clinic.
Dr. Convery utilized a pulsed mode laser to restore the nose to its original shape.
During the procedure, the doctors carefully removed the excess tissue to minimize any visible scarring.
Arthur had also seen pictures of someone else with a more severe condition than his own, who had also suffered a similar treatment.
These images gave him hope and confidence that the procedure could have positive results for him as well.
When asked about the cost of treatment for his 'freak nose', Arthur said it was a reasonable amount and that the successful treatment had completely changed his life.
