On social media, a mother shared an image of the homework on Reddit, that gained attention.
The original of the incident as the mother was left frustrated after discovering the so-called 'correct' answer in her child's year two English homework.
The photo showed that the homework assignment required the student to identify the correct synonym for various words.
The answer, including one of the words, was 'ideal,' and the student was given five synonym options: sweet, nice, perfect, identical, and interesting
The student chose 'perfect' as the synonym for 'ideal', but the teacher marked this as incorrect.
According to the teacher, 'interesting' was the 'correct' synonym.
This left the mother questioning if she was 'crazy', as she, like many others, believed that 'perfect' should have been the correct answer.
In the comment selection, other parents expressed their anger.
Comments ranged from questioning the teacher's judgment to acknowledging the opportunity to teach children that adults can also be wrong.
One person said: Teachers used to know their stuff... now it's really hit-and-miss. I feel like it's possible now that some children are a lot smarter than their teachers.
A second wrote: Most Australian teachers are poorly educated and certainly not well read, it’ s embarrassing.
While a third commented: Teacher is definitely wrong!! It makes you wonder how qualified our teachers are !!!
Someone else said: Can't expect any better from Aussie schools when they take the lowest hanging fruit on the tree to do a teachers course ... and those teaching, the future teacher, would not be any better ...
The mother later emailed the teacher to point out the error.
She clarified that she wasn't 'angry', but rather confused by the whole situation. It remains unknown whether the teacher admitted their mistake.
On Reddit, a mother shared a photo of her daughter's homework, claiming that the answer was marked incorrect.
The picture showed the math homework belonging to a first-grade student, which required filling in two boxes.
One box was labeled "tens" and the other "ones" for the number '27'. The child filled in the "tens" column with a two and the "ones" column with a seven.
However, when the question was marked as wrong, the mother, Tiesha, was left perplexed and decided to reach out to her child's teacher for clarification.
The teacher explained that the new math curriculum emphasized understanding that having two tens and seven ones is equivalent to 27 ones.
However, Tiesha, who had previously worked as a primary school teacher for six years, expressed her disagreement with this new teaching method, stating, "This new math is NOT it."
According to you, which one is the correct answer?
