On TikTok, a mother sparked a heated debate after sharing a video where she narrates a story about spending $888 for each kid for Christmas, but they still feel hard done by.
The TikToker, who goes by @karenakaginger and is known as Karen from Oldham, posted a video on TikTok, sparking discussions among viewers.
She told her followers in the video that she gives her kids expensive treats as a way to make up for combining their Christmas and birthday gifts.
However, her children complained to her that others admitted spending much more; they felt it was unfair.
She asked other parents in the video how much they were spending on their own children for Christmas. She asked whether they have 'a rough figure in mind' for children's gifts.
She said: 'Because my kids feel as though they are being hard done by.'
She added, 'So their combined amount is £500 ($634). That's for their Christmas and their birthday. I am getting them a few extra bits, so it's going to work out as £700 ($887) each,'
In the comment section, several users claimed that they have different budgets when it comes to festive gifts for their children and their birthdays.
One person said: I always think that’s awful—Christmas presents at Christmas and birthday presents at birthday, even if their birthday is December 26.
A second wrote: My son's birthday is also right after Christmas. This year I've spent 100 pounds on each, so 200 altogether. However, for his birthday, we will also go on a...
While a third commented: I've spent about 4k on Christmas, but we save and budget all year I always do big st Xmas my partner gives me 350 for each for their bits.
Someone else said: I don’t really have a budget depending on what they ask for. They get something they ask for, something to do like concert tickets, and clothes.
