According to Asia One's translation, the Malaysian mother shared a video on TikTok recounting the shocking moment when she caught her friend breastfeeding her newborn without consent.
In the video, Afiqah Hasanah, from Malaysia recounts to her followers that she had her hands full at a family event, so she sought assistance from a friend to ensure the well-being of her son, Haider.
The mum said in a video: 'I was busy carrying things, and when I arrived, she asked me for Haider, so I just gave him [to her] because she was someone close to me.'
Unfortunately, Afiqah did not expect what happened next when she discovered that her friend was breastfeeding Haider, her newborn.
The mum explained:
'Suddenly while I was carrying those things, I saw that she was, like, doing something at the back in an open hall.'
'Turns out, she was breastfeeding Haider.'
However, Haider explained her actions, stating that her baby was crying. For Afiqah, Haider's actions were deemed unacceptable.
The mother expressed her distress on the screen, saying:
'Which mother can accept her baby being directly breastfed by someone else while the mother herself has breastmilk?'
'I didn't expect that she could do such a thing.'
'I was so stressed I felt like crying.. this has destroyed my trust in people. How long will I be haunted by this?'
The incident came to a halt when Afiqah's mom caught the woman in the act twice.
The mum expressed her concern and told viewers: "Now, I'm having a tough time shaking it off my mind.
'Now, I'm having a tough time shaking it off my mind,' she said.
The video quickly went viral, with many expressing sympathy towards the mother.
One person said: The stupid thing is she left her child in that position for a second time.
A second said: Breastfeeding can be a very private, bonding moment between mother and child. Her friend didn't even bother to ask and overstepped her boundaries.
While a third wrote: Not saying there's anything so bad about shared breastfeeding. Long tradition of wet nurses and all that... but who would think it was OK to just do without asking???
Someone else commented: Her intentions were good, but the friend should have asked first. Breastfeeding is a very intimate thing between mother and baby.
