An Australian mother is furious after spotting a poison slipped into a Halloween candy bag that her son and his friend had used while out trick-or-treating.
Pennie Smith, who lives in the Illawarra region in NSW, recounted that her 12-year-old son, Tyrell, and his friend participated in a neighborhood Halloween event on October 31. When her son returned home, she made a horrifying discovery in their bags: multiple sachets of the deadly poison Ratsak.
Ms. Smith revealed that her son's friend had come across one of the sachets and held it up, asking her if she found it 'funny' that someone had placed it in their bags.
She said her son's friend had found one of the sachets and asked her whether she "thought it was funny someone had given it to them".
Ms. Smith told the Illawarra Mercury: 'It quivers me to the core, I was just horrified. Who would do this?'
She immediately grabbed both children's candy bags and conducted a thorough inspection before ultimately discarding the bags due to concerns over potential poison contamination.
During her examination, she came across two Ratsak sachets, and alarmingly, one of them had been opened, with the blue bait missing.
Ms Smith said she was furious as her town of Windang hosts a sizable Halloween celebration. She believes that someone had malicious intent.
Ms. Smith has urged fellow parents, particularly those in her community, to diligently inspect their children's Halloween candy bags.
'Please keep an eye out. Imagine if a kid put this in their mouth,' she said.
After the incident, NSW Police said they had the report and launched an investigation.
