Human feet have been washing up on the shores of the US and Canada for a very long time, leaving many people baffled, with no one knowing where they come from.
The mystery of human feet started when a woman from Jedediah Island, British Columbia, found a single trainer washed ashore in 2007.
After picking up the sneaker, she was shocked after spotting a decaying foot inside. After that, numerous theories arose surrounding this macabre incident.
The incident turned into a scare when more and more people were left stunned after finding more and more human feet washed up on beaches in the US and Canada.
These human feet have sparked a lot of conjecture about how they ended up there.
The incident was worse when Rose Stanton, known as the island's regional coroner, claimed that human feet were discovered and still had flesh on them.
According to the report, from 2007 to 2019, a total of 21 feet had been discovered by people walking on the beach, leaving several in fear.
Several people believed that it was the work of a deranged serial killer, the "mafia" getting rid of dead bodies, or even aliens. However, others said that it might be a cartoon model or Halloween costume item. However, there was no truth to any of these theories.
In fact, the true reason why the mystery of human feet washing ashore in the US and Canada was grim that it wasn't as sinister.
After a decade of trying to find the answer to the mystery of human feet, a number of people were left baffled when there was no indication of homicide in any case. Fortunately, coroner Barb McLintock provided a resolution.
In an answer to the National Post, he said, "It's sad but true... a lot of this is simply the quelling of the public imagination, to say, no, this is unfortunate, and they’re all very sad cases."
They not only solve the speculative narratives, including those of extraterrestrials and murderers, associated with the appearance of washed-up feet but also find real evidence for the truth behind the mystery of human feet.
He explained that the mystery of human feet is attributed to advancements in running shoe technology. McLintock added: "It really didn’t come up until we had running shoes that floated so well. Before, they just stayed down there at the bottom of the ocean,"
These detached feet are often linked to individuals who took their own lives or drowned in accidents, their bodies sinking to the ocean floor. As marine creatures consume them, the feet subsequently separate and resurface, eventually washing ashore.
Regarding the reason behind the phenomenon not manifesting significantly until 2007, sneaker design plays a crucial role. In the past few decades, sneakers have transformed with the use of lighter foam and the incorporation of air pockets in the soles.
