Passenger wears 2.5kg of clothing on flight to avoid excess baggage fees

In 2019, Gel Rodriguez became an internet sensation after she encountered the costly carry-on baggage rules while embarking on a vacation.

Airlines have their own policies on what can be brought on board for free, whether it's one or two bags, as you may know, if you travel frequently.

However, when Gel reached the airport, she was informed that her bag weighed 9kg, exceeding the limit by 2kg.

Opting not to pay for the additional weight, Gel resorted to wearing some of her heaviest clothing.

She managed to squeeze at least two pairs of trousers or shorts, five shirts, and three jackets over her outfit, as seen in a hilarious photo she shared at the time.

After the incident, Gel Rodriguez revealed to Vice that her decision to wear her clothes was because she didn't want to pay the excess baggage fee for just two kilograms (4.4lbs) of overweight luggage. Looking back on the viral photo, Gel admitted, "If I had known it would go viral, I would have posed better."

Gel Rodriguez also advised against others attempting to wear excess baggage, as she stated, "It was really hot. I don't recommend other people do it."
