Naturally, people have flocked to Twitter to question why their phones emit this new sound every time they scroll through Mark Zuckerberg's original platform.

So, what can you do if you're one of the frustrated users?

Fortunately, the Facebook mobile app has a straightforward method to turn off the chirping sound. Here's a step-by-step guide:

1. Open your Facebook mobile app.

2. Tap on the bottom-right button of the app, which displays your profile picture, three lines, and the label "Menu."

3. You will be directed to the Menu. Scroll down until you find the "Settings and Privacy" option and tap on it.

4. Within the expanded settings, tap on "Settings."

5. Scroll down further until you see the "Media" button under the "Preferences" section.

6. The crucial step is to toggle off the "In-app sound" option.

Once it's turned off, the toggle will no longer be blue, and you can enjoy a peaceful, chirp-free experience on the app.

Disabling the in-app sound will also disable sound effects when you like, comment, or share posts. However, your video audio playback will remain unaffected.

According to Meta employee Andy Stone, the chirping sound is the result of an unfortunate technical error.

In a tweet, Stone mentioned, "Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone? It's not you, it's us! And it's an unfortunate technical error that we're in the process of fixing."
