Mark Zuckerberg, the renowned founder of Facebook, has recently revealed plans for a colossal hidden bunker project on a secluded island in Hawaii.
With an estimated cost of $260 million, this plan has attracted both curiosity and controversy on social media.
In 2021, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, made headlines after they purchased 110 acres of land on Kauai, an island in Hawaii.
However, this acquisition faced backlash from Hawaiian advocacy groups.
They claimed that this purchase would become a widespread trend among the wealthy and that they would deprive Hawaiians of their lands by repurchasing.
In defense, a representative for Zuckerberg emphasized that the purchasing portion of the land accounted for less than 1%, with the majority dedicated to farming, conservation, and the protection of wildlife.
A representative for the founder of Meta also rejected claims of Hawaiian families being forced to leave, asserting that Zuckerberg and Chan had made commitments to charitable organizations on Kauai.
These commitments were aimed at improving the island's educational healthcare systems, conserving natural resources, and assisting in the recovery from flooding and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the controversy, Zuckerberg moved forward with the development of his land, pouring an astonishing $260 million into the project.
Details of the plans were uncovered in a 2023 investigation by Wired magazine, revealing a compound consisting of over a dozen buildings.
The center of the estate is two main mansions, boasting a combined floor area comparable to a professional football field. They are estimated to have at least 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms in total.
These mansions will be connected by a tunnel leading to a 5,000-square-foot underground shelter.
The hidden bunker is a remarkable feature of the project and has generated significant attention.
This bunker was constructed with metal and soundproofed with concrete, it also provides living space, a mechanical room, and an escape hatch accessible via a ladder.
The entire structure is designed to be self-sustainable, with provisions for food production and water supply through water tanks and farming areas on the estate.
A nearby wooded area will be home to 11 treehouse-like structures interconnected by rope bridges, offering visitors a unique treetop experience.
Another building will house a gym, pools, sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, and tennis court. The estate will also feature guesthouses and operations buildings.
While the scale and features of the project are undoubtedly impressive, the revelation of Zuckerberg's hidden bunker has sparked divided reactions.
Some argue that it is a symbol of excessive wealth and privilege, while others appreciate the investments made in conservation and wildlife preservation.
