According to reports, a Royal Caribbean cruise traveling between Cuba and the Bahamas was rocked by a tragic incident early Thursday morning (April 4th).
The man allegedly jumped off the ship while his family looked on.
After the incident, the cruise line, Royal Caribbean, launched a search and rescue operation without delay. The U.S. Coast Guard has since taken over the search efforts.
Bryan Sims, a fellow passenger, shared his account of the moments leading up to the incident.
He described spending time with the young man and his brother in the ship's hot tub until the early hours of the morning. Sims recalled that the atmosphere was convivial, but he noticed signs of intoxication in the young man.
He said: "As we were walking from the hot tub back to the elevators, his dad and brother were walking towards us. His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess.
"When we got to them, he said to his dad, 'I’ll fix this right now.' And he jumped out the window in front of us all."
As they headed back to the elevators, the situation turned tragic. The young man's father confronted him about his intoxication, leading him to suddenly jump off the cruise ship, shocking onlookers.
Additionally, Morrison, another witness on board, also described the chaos of the incident. According to Morrison, the atmosphere onboard turned somber after the man jumped off the cruise ship.
The team of rescue continued control of the search operation, scouring the waters surrounding Cuba in a determined effort to locate the missing man.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told the Post: "The ship’s crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort alongside the US Coast Guard, who has taken over the search."
Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean's Care Team provided support and assistance to the man's distraught family, who were undoubtedly reeling from the ordeal.
However, the man remained missing.
