Shakira said that her son hates the 2023 blockbuster "Barbie" 

The sparked discussion of the film reached Shakira's home. Shakira explained in an Allure interview that her son 'absolutely hated' the Barbie movie. She explained that her son 'felt' Barbie 'was emasculating,' and she also agreed with her son.

Additionally, Shakira agrees with her sons 'to a certain extent.' She suggests that while we should support empowering women, it shouldn't come at the expense of masculinity.

Shakira shared her concern about the "Barbie' film.

Shakira admitted the importance of achieving equality without diminishing the value men bring to society.

She explained: "I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide."

In addition, Shakira also issued a call to action. She questioned why women should shoulder all the burdens when men can be equal partners.

She added:  'Giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity', but also thinks that 'men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well'.

"We compliment each other, and that compliment should not be lost," she continues. "Just because a woman can do it all doesn’t mean she should?"

Shakira resolves: "Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who have a duty to carry it as well?"

The reaction to the film

Shakira's sharing has sparked further discussion online, with people offering their own opinions on the "Barbie" movie and its messages.

Additionally, viewers have accused it of Anti-Male Bias. Some viewers took to social media, accusing the film of being overly critical of men.

Comments on platforms like X described the movie as a "woke-a-thon" and "anti-male."

One person said: I understand the inspirational parts and the great quotes and such. But the rest of the movie was kind of terrible. & though I kind of get the point of Ken….that was terrible too. I was never into Barbies though.

A second wrote: I was just wondering what Shakira and her sons thought of the Barbie movie. Glad they've spoken up!

While a third commented: I fell asleep and woke up with 20 left in the movie. I didn’t have high expectations so it was neither good or bad. Once will be enough. I’ll add it to the list of movies I won’t watch ever again
