The incident of the Baltimore Bridge collapsing after being struck by a container ship has garnered attention.
According to reports, at 1:23 am, the cargo ship was crossing the Baltimore Bridge. In a viral video on social media, thick smoke was seen billowing quickly before the ship collided with the Baltimore Bridge.
In the footage, the ship loses power once again. Just as the lights return, the vessel slams into the bridge, causing the entire structure to crumble.
The incident was declared a 'mass casualty event'.
Additionally, Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott took to Twitter to express his thoughts:
He wrote: "I’m aware of and en route to the incident at the Key Bridge. I have been in contact with [Fire] Chief Wallace, @GovWesMoore@JohnnyOJr, and @AACoExec. Emergency personnel are on scene, and efforts are underway.”
The U.S. Coast Guard has concluded its active search and rescue mission for the six construction workers missing after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
Accroding to CNN, Rear Admiral Shannon Gilreath stated, "based on the extended period of time since the bridge collapsed and the freezing water temperatures, 'we do not believe that we are going to find any of these individuals still alive.'
Divers of the rescue team are making efforts to locate the missing workers' bodies.
Colonel Roland L. Butler of the Maryland State Police said in the statement to the public: "At this point, we do not know where they are, but we intend to give it our best effort to help these families find closure."
According to reports, two construction workers were rescued from the Patapsco River. One person was rushed to a local trauma center in serious condition, while the other individual sustained no injuries.
Baltimore City Council Member Phylicia Porter said CNN: 'We are hearing one body was found.'
Now, the rescuers continue their efforts to locate the five vehicles currently submerged in the river, along with the six construction workers who remain unaccounted for.
Maryland authorities are utilizing sonar technology to locate those who fell into the frigid 47-degree Fahrenheit water while repairing potholes on the bridge.

Governor Moore confirmed that the ship's crew issued a mayday call before the crash, allowing authorities to halt incoming traffic on the bridge. He expressed gratitude for this action, stating, "We're thankful that between the 'mayday' and collapse... that officials were able to... begin to stop the flow of traffic so more cars were not up on the bridge."
