On a Sunday night in Marco Island, Florida, USA, the dog Turbo escaped from the house while his owner was not looking. The dog's owner, Ms. Cindy Burnett, had to look for her dog when she saw it was missing, but Turbo was not found.
"I've driven this stretch of road at least five or six times, calling out Turbo's name, and still can't find it," Burnett said.
Cindy was looking, and Turbo was fighting for his life. While roaming, the dog Turbo slipped and fell into the canal. This is the waterway that islanders take to return home by boat from the Gulf of Mexico. Turbo couldn't climb the canal's banks because they were too high.
No one was nearby, and no one heard him dive into the water.
Owner Cindy Burnett thought she would never see her pet dog again. But a miracle happened, and 15 hours later, Burnett received a message that her Turbo had been found, along with the friend who rescued it.
Fortunately for Turbo, a pod of dolphins spotted the dog struggling in the water, and they swam around him. They kept stirring the water and sending distress calls to neighbors.
After Turbo was safely pulled ashore by people, the dolphins also disappeared into the water without a sound.
Turbo has been reunited with his owner and is very healthy. But if it weren't for the dolphins, the dog would likely have drowned in the icy water.
Dolphins are one of the smartest animals and are known for being friendly and mischievous. They have saved many lives. And the story of rescuing poor Turbo Dog from drowning is yet another testament to the animal's lovable character.
