There are many common misconceptions about the holes in men's underwear.
For years, the primary use of the boxer hole has been debated on platforms like Quora, Yelp, and Reddit.
Contrary to popular belief, the hole isn’t just there for easy bathroom access. Most men suggested that the purpose of the boxer hole, also known as a flap or a fly, extends beyond just convenience.
Nowadays, some men see so little use in the flap that many underwear brands have started producing lines without it. However, some men still prefer boxers with the hole, while others prefer them without.
Underwear brand Sheath recently clarified the purpose of the hole. "The hole in your boxers is also called a fly. The functional term is still fly, and its purpose is to make it easier for you to pee while wearing boxers," Sheath stated.
Despite this, Sheath's research shows that 80 percent of men never use the fly for its intended purpose, finding it easier to simply pull their underwear down.
This raises the question: if most men don’t use the fly, is there another reason for its existence? Sheath explains that modern underwear design has evolved significantly. "Today's modern underwear is nothing like what men wore a few decades ago. The pouch where the fly is located has also been changing drastically. In the past, this area used to be flat, which didn’t provide a natural contour for the penis."
Despite these revealation, some people on Reddit still consider the fly a useless addition, preferring more secure underwear to avoid any unintended slips.
One person said: I never use the holes anyway tbh
A second wrote: I have literally never used the hole in underwear.
While a third commented: They understand that if you try hard enough you can break on through to the other side
Someone else said: Idk but I use it to pee when I'm in dress clothes so I don't have to spend forever putting everything back into position
Another added: This is why you should never store a puppy in there.
