In a recent TikTok video, Samantha, known as @thesam_show on the platform, shared her apprehension about starting a new corporate job last September. There was one particular aspect of her new position that she found concerning.
In the footage, Samantha explained that whenever she changes workplaces, she has to navigate the awkward conversation about fitting her name into the company's email structure.
She explained that she had an unfortunate email address
"My name is Samantha Hart," she revealed in the video.
She added: “And most companies use the email designation of first initial, last name, meaning my email would be ‘shart’.”
She went on to explain that most companies use the email format of first initial and last name, which would result in her email being "shart."
For those unfamiliar, "shart" refers to an unexpected, let's say, mishap related to passing gas.
In the video, the content creator revealed that HR contacted her because her name didn't exactly fit the email structure
Samantha shared that in her previous professional jobs, both organizations followed this email structure, leading HR to contact her on both occasions. They said that her name didn't align well with the mail format.
“They told me that my name doesn’t exactly fit the email structure and would I mind if they gave me a different structure for my email,” she added.
Naturally, Samantha eagerly agreed, expressing her desire to avoid having an email address that reads "shart.".
She said, “To which I say, yeah, I don’t want an email that says Shart. Fix it. Give me something else.”
She said in the video that she intended to change her name as soon as the right opportunity came up.
Below the video, viewers are stunned by her decision, while others agree with her and suggest that they would also change their names if given the opportunity.
One person said: If you think that's bad - I worked at a place where everyone's email was only 4 characters, so they were easy to remember.
A second wrote: My parents both have terrible initials. My mom is VD & my dad was BJM...BJ & BM.
While a third commented: My original name was Christophe Ulriche Nathaniel Taylor. I'd never let them use my initials on an email.
Another added: Not initials but, If we are talking unfortunate names... I once worked with a man named Dickey Duty.
