A woman shared a video on TikTok, gaining attention by demonstrating the effectiveness of noise-canceling technology while running through an active shooting scene.
TikToker Christina, known as @movementwithtina, shared a video demonstrating the noise resistance of AirPods.
The video has the caption: "The sirens in the back and my blissful unawareness is sending me. But for real, this was actually really intense, and I’m so sorry for those injured and everyone impacted."
In the footage, a woman was running when she unknowingly ran through an active shooting scene without noticing the incident.
The video showed Christina giving a carefree thumbs-up to the camera, oblivious to the unfolding danger around her. She later expressed her shock and sympathy for those affected by the incident.
She later shared her experience in a video, stating, "POV your AirPods are on noise-canceling and your phone is on DND so you don’t realize you just ran through an active shooting."
Surprisingly, while running, she passed through an active shooting scene without realizing it, thanks to her noise-canceling AirPods.
The video was posted on May 4, coinciding with a police manhunt for a suspected gunman in Atlanta. The suspect, Deion Patterson, fatally shot a woman and injured four others before being apprehended.
She only noticed more cops heading down the residential streets, which made her begin to suspect something was amiss regarding the active shooting.
She said: "I had my AirPods on noise cancelling because I was running through residential streets, and there’s always lots of people out there, and I never had any issues on those streets."
Upon checking her phone during a quick break, she saw multiple missed calls and texts from her boyfriend warning her about the situation on her route. Christina confirmed she was 'totally fine' and decided to take a different route back home.
One person said: I’m sorry but AirPods noise cancellation is not that good lol
A second wrote: I never use the noise cancelling feature in public for this reason
While a third commented: my mom legit was like I saw people running during an active shooting.
Another added: DO NOT EVER use noise cancelling headphones OUTSIDE. I distinctly remember a student getting shot outside his school when he shld hv had a chance to-
Someone else said: There is a feature in the settings called sound recognition that sends you a notification when there is noise (you choose which noises you want).
I neverrrr wear both airpods on my ears when I’m out in public. Let alone with nose cancelling on. So dangerous. Another users added.
However, the video left viewers stunned by the effectiveness of the noise-canceling AirPods, but also by the potential risks of noise-cancelling technology, especially in situations where awareness of one's surroundings is crucial.
