A woman has sparked a heated debate after she revealed her process of cleaning her Christmas tree on a Tiktok video before putting it up.
A huge debate has been sparked on Tiktok about the question of whether artificial trees are needed after a woman filmed herself squirting them into her bathtub. The video quickly viral on social media with the caption: "Clean my Christmas tree with me."
Rhema, a content creator in Ontario, Canada, shared her lengthy process on TikTok.
At the beginning of the video, Rema can be seen climbing up the Christmas tree to disinfect it. She wrote in the video: "Unpopular opinion: You need to clean your Christmas tree." But some accused her of "performative cleanliness."
Rhema was seen separating the tiers of her artificial tree and placing them individually in a bathtub in the video, which has garnered more than two million views on TikTok.
She then sprays them with a cleaning solution before filling the tub with water and adding dish soap.
Following this, the water is allowed to drain, and the assembly of the tree is completed.
Rema added overlay text in the video, read: "Unpopular opinion: You need to clean your Christmas tree."
The video gained 2.2M views with 5,000 comments. While numerous viewers seemed unfazed by the idea of cleaning their Christmas tree, others remained skeptical about this hack.
One person said: Cleantok is getting outta hand.
A second wrote: The clear water and 2 small pine needles sailing down the drain sent me.
While a third commented: My boss trying to find tasks for me to do when work is slow
Someone else suggested: Is this because the Christmas tree was stored in a damp basement or shed? Wetting the tree does not seem safe because of the spores. The best thing to do if a tree is damp and has mold is to get rid of it.
Just take it outside and blow the dust off with a leaf blower. No need to scrub it like you've been using it to clean toilets. Another added.
