The father-of-the-bride traditionally walked her down the aisle, but in one bride-to-be's case, her late great-grandfather expressed a desire to be part of the wedding. She discovered what she believes to be his reflection in a photograph of her fiancé's wedding ring.
Although Becky Sirrell, 27, is saddened by the fact that her late great-grandfather Samuel Brown will not physically witness her special day, she considers his ghostly appearance during this significant moment in her life as a sign of his approval from beyond.
After struggling to find a wedding ring for her fiancé, Adrian Jobson, the mother-of-one resolved to purchase one online that would be a perfect fit.
When the package arrived on their doorstep in late August, the enthusiastic bride couldn't resist opening it before her 36-year-old groom returned home from work.
Filled with excitement, Becky from Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, eagerly tore apart the packaging and slid the ring onto her middle finger, promptly capturing a photograph to share with her partner.
She explained: "We ordered the ring and when it arrived, I sent Adrian a photo of me wearing it saying I thought it would be too small."
But when she checked the photo ahead of hitting send she saw something - or someone - else that made her take a second glance.
Becky described feeling 'freaked out' at first to see 'a scary creature' peering back at her from the ring's reflection.
"It looked like an old man standing in my hallway," she admitted.
"I'd just put my baby down for a nap but I was so freaked out I sat in silence for the whole time he was asleep."
However, when she shared the eerie image with her family, they all came to the same conclusion: the figure in the reflection bore a striking resemblance to another significant man in her life, her beloved great-grandfather Samuel.
Becky's great-grandfather had passed away the previous year, in October 2021, at the age of 93.
Admitting that the presence of her great-grandfather brought her comfort, Becky acknowledged that the reflection appeared to be a clear depiction of him. The reflection portrayed a man with grey hair and a dark top, almost as if he were observing the new piece of jewelry from a distance.
Becky asserted that the figure in the reflection looked exactly like her grandad in a specific photograph that she had hanging in the hallway where the picture was taken.
Rather than finding it eerie, Becky considered the appearance of her great-grandfather's apparent apparition as a sign of his approval for her upcoming wedding, reaching out to her from the realm beyond.
"It comforts me because I don't feel scared. If I felt like there was a stranger in my house, I would have been on edge," she claims.
Although Becky's fiancé acknowledges the presence of the figure, Becky says he remains 'sceptical' when it comes to her great-granddad's ghostly presence.
When Becky shared the image on Facebook, users expressed contrasting opinions, disagreeing with her fiancé's skepticism.
