A woman in Spain was scammed out of nearly $700,000 by a fake Keanu Reeves.
The woman, who goes by Chloe, appeared on the Spanish TV show 'Y ahora Sonsoles' and revealed that she had received messages from the Hollywood actor.
According to Choloe, the scammer initially responded to one of her comments on social media, leading to them chatting daily.
The impersonator spoke to Chloe about rock music and motorcycles, and they even had voice message conversations in English.
She revealed that the scammer asked for $64,000 to rent a private jet, and then $5,300 to buy a special computer to create the script for "John Wick 5" and invest in Bitcoin.
In total, Chloe sent the scammer up to around $750,000 but did not receive any money back.
Furthermore, she was later forced to pawn items and borrow money from family members. Chloe explained that this was not a romance scam, but an economic scam.
After making 16 bank transfers and failing into debt, Chloe began to grow suspicious and eventually stopped communicating with the scammer.
She determined that the person she had been talking to was not the real 'Man of Tai Chi' director.
Previously, a woman in Colorado also believed she had been conversing with the Lebanese-born actor since 2022. This woman sent $5,000 to the person she thought was Keanu Reeves.
A 65-year-old woman said she had great conversations with the person she believed was Keanu Reeves. They talked about many things, including personal details.
"We talked about everything from what we had for breakfast to sex in the shower,” she shared.
The woman gave the person access to her bank accounts and tax information. In April 2024, she claimed to have sent him around $5,000 total, but she did not think it was a scam.
She said the only way she would believe it was a fraud was if the real Keanu Reeves came and told her he did not do this.
Representatives for Keanu Reeves have repeatedly denied that the actor has a Facebook account or any other social media profiles. They have firmly stated this on multiple occasions.
The "Keanu Reeves" scam has become an annual issue and has been widely reported on by the media.
