Recently, people were surprised after discovering Woody Harrelson, the famous actor for his roles in films like The Hunger Games, has been living without a cell phone for the past three years.
In a recent podcast interview, Harrelson revealed the reasons behind his decision to give up on the device that has become an integral part of most people's daily lives.
Harrelson admitted that he realized himself spending too much time on his phone, often aimlessly scrolling through various apps and losing track of time.
According to the actor, he set a 2-hour daily limit but would often exceed that limit within the first few hours of the day.
This made him decide to completely give up his cell phone, as he didn't like being constantly available to others.
"I made a thing where I'm like, 'Okay, I'm gonna set a two-hour limit on my phone,'" he recalled.
"It's like 9:30[am]. I've already hit my limit at 9:30. So I woke up and I've been on it two hours already because you know how it can just keep going and going."
Additionally, Harrelson found himself constantly relying on his phone, especially for texting. Therefore, he decided to take drastic action.
Harrelson explained that he didn't like feeling the need to be available to others at all times.
Even though he likes staying in touch with people, he doesn't enjoy having the phone as a permanent attachment.
Fellow actor Ted Danson, who hosts the podcast where Harrelson talked about this, joked about Harrelson.
Danson said Harrelson is "one of those bullies" who makes other people hold his phone for him. This shows how unique Harrelson's choice to live without a phone is.
"This is very impressive. But this way of living may not work for everyone. Some people may not want to live without a phone," he added.
Many online users expressed their confusion, wondering how Harrelson could live without a cell phone in three years.
In contrast, some others agree with Harrelson's decision to give up a cell phone, revealing that they also rarely use their phone in daily life to keep their mind peaceful and focus more on their real life.
A great actor indeed. I can't blame him for not owning a smartphone, I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as he doesn't have to worry about paying his bills, manage bank stuff, etc..which I think he's got enough people/employees managing that for him. As for news updates, he can get that on TV, one user said.
Because his soul was in the era before Alexander Graham Bell invented the world's first telephone, the second user commented.
It’s helpful to take breaks from too much technology and the media whom all way too often, illegally go way to far, in order to wrongly see through your own devices. Mental illness on the hackers diagnosis there, the third user agreed with Harrelson.
