Diana Armstrong is the woman with the longest nails in the world. Her nails measure over 42 feet in total length. She has not cut her nails for more than 25 years.
People often ask her why she decided to let her nails grow so long.
This woman, Diana Armstrong, has not cutting her nails since 1997, and her story holds a deep meaning.
After her daughter, Latisha, tragically passed away from an asthma attack in her sleep, Diana decided to stop cutting her nails.
Latisha used to do her mother's nails every weekend, and Diana couldn't bear to part with this reminder of their time together.
Twenty-seven years later, Diana has won the Guinness World Record for her very long nails. They are 42 feet and 10.4 inches long.
However, with great length comes great challenges, and Diana has faced numerous daily struggles as a result of her record-breaking nails.
Simple tasks like zipping up her pants or jacket have become arduous endeavors. While she can pop open a can of soda, she requires a knife to do so.
Driving a car has also become impractical, as she would need to stick her hand out of the window.
"Zipping up my pants or jacket, I can pop open a can of soda but I need a knife. I drove a car but had to stick my hand out the window, so I don’t drive anymore," she said.
“When I go to a public restroom, I go to the stall that is the biggest. If someone is in that stall I have to wait until they’ve finished and then go in because I can’t use the smaller ones because my nails are longer than them,” she answered the question.
As for the question that everyone wonders about, Diana reassured everyone that her bathroom routine is much like anyone else's.
She acknowledged that she works with her nails in a different way than most people do, but ultimately, she uses a lot of toilet paper.
However, she mentioned that she doesn't wrap it around her hand like others might, as it simply wouldn't work with her long nails.
“My nails are a part of me. I can’t ever imagine cutting them off,” she candidly stated.
Maintaining her nails is a team effort, and Diana relies on her grandchildren to help with manicure maintenance.
Each nail takes around ten hours to polish, using up to ten bottles of nail polish. It requires a significant amount of time and effort, but Diana cherishes the support she receives from her family.
Initially, Diana's other daughter, Rania, felt a sense of embarrassment regarding her mother's striking appearance.
However, after learning the backstory and understanding the emotional connection Diana has to her nails, Rania's perspective shifts.
She realized that just as much as her mother missed Latisha, she missed her too.
Rania now fully supports her mother's decision to maintain her nails as a way of holding onto her daughter's memory.
“When she told us the back story, it kind of changed my feelings towards it. Because just as much as she missed my sister, I missed her too. So, if that’s her way of holding on to her, then I accept," Rania said.
